Recall of Certain Jetboil Personal and Group Cooking Systems
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Jetboil has announced a voluntary recall of certain Jetboil Personal and Group Cooking Systems (click here for joint U.S. CPSC and Jetboil, Inc. press release)
Jetboil has utilized three different gas valves (the “A”, “B” and “C” style valves) in the production of its Personal Cooking System (PCS) and Group Cooking System (GCS). PCS and GCS units utilizing the B style valve were shipped to US retailers between July 10 and September 9, 2008, and sold through retail since July 10, 2008.
Jetboil is undertaking a consumer recall of all PCS and GCS systems utilizing this B style valve, working in cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (www.cpsc.gov).
We have determined independently to undertake this process after receiving reports and returned units from a very limited number of end users who have experienced leaking gas and subsequent ignition of the gas leak. No injuries or property damage have been reported by these users.
PCS and GCS systems utilizing the A and C style valves continue to be fully safe and functional. No Helios systems are affected by the recall.
To identify the valve type of your system, see below. If you have a question about identification, please call 888-611-9905.

Additional Background Information
This is a voluntary recall undertaken at Jetboil’s initiative out of an overabundance of caution and commitment to our end users who have come to trust our brand and rely on our products. We have contacted the CPSC and informed them of our intention to do a retail store restocking and consumer recall of products having this B style valve. The CPSC will aid us in carrying out the recall.
We have already undertaken a restocking with our retailers to ensure that products containing the B style valve have been removed from retail shelves. If there are any questions whether a recently purchased product is affected by this recall, we may be contacted via the above.
Upon thorough investigation and research, Jetboil has discovered that some units with the B valve may have improperly sized screw threads which in limited instances can make threading the fuel canister onto the gas control valve difficult. This tightness can result in gas leakage and possible ignition. This condition only occurs when a PCS or GCS with the undersized valve threads is used with a small percentage of fuel canisters having valve threads at the high end of the acceptable tolerance range. It is our current understanding, while unconfirmed, that this can occur with both Jetpower and other brands of butane fuel.
Jetboil carefully designs and thoroughly tests first hand all products and product upgrades, in our own facility. It is due to the rare combination of factors required to produce the leakage situation that these B style valves with improperly sized threads avoided detection and screening. However, we assume full responsibility for failing to ship only fully safe and reliable product, and we are augmenting our quality assurance methods and testing as a result of the information gained from this situation.
Since launching the PCS in 2004, Jetboil has produced and sold hundreds of thousands of its category creating and category leading cooking systems, establishing an extraordinary safety record and making hundreds of thousands of loyal and enthusiastic end users around the world. We apologize to our customers and users for any inconvenience or concern this matter may have caused, and remain committed to developing, producing, and selling the most innovative and highest quality outdoor cooking products available.
