Snow Sports

Lloyd DuVal, April 2004
Last Sunday, I took my new Jetboil stove along in my day pack, snowshoeing on fresh snow up to just below tree line (11,350 feet, SW Pikes Peak) where I brewed some coffee for our lunch break before returning to the TH. I poured in just a cup of water and filled the rest of the liter cooking cup with snow. The piezo electric igniter worked like a charm, and it boiled a little more than 2 cups in less than 3 minutes while set out in the open in a 5-10 wind!

Notes from a backcountry ski trip: “Basically it was a blizzard. We were all cold pretty close to freezing-cold, wet and tired. Our stove wouldn’t work and we ran into a guy up there with a Jetboil. He gave us all a bit of tea with some peppermint Schnapps and basically saved our asses. I thought that I was all set with the stove I have but I am now a firm believer in your set-up.”
