Safety/Emergency Preparedness

John Berg, January 2005
The high winds and snow began on Saturday evening, January 22, and continued for 24 hours—dumping two feet of drifting snow and totally blocking our steep driveway. Our street was finally plowed at 3pm on Monday, and our driveway was partially cleared on Tuesday, January 25, at 3pm. We have an all-electric house. Our power went out on Sunday, January 23 at 7:30am and didn’t return until 4:30pm. We used our Jetboil for tea and coffee at breakfast, and for tea and soup at lunch, and for afternoon tea at 4pm. We planned to heat beef stew in the Jetboil for dinner, but fortunately the power came back. We’d had the option of being carried out to emergency vehicles and spending the next several days at the Falmouth, MA High School Emergency Shelter, or of battoning down in parkas and hoping that power would be restored. We had decided to stay, knowing that we could use our Jetboil to warm food and drink as long as we needed. Jetboil sustained us that day, and influenced us to wait out the cold and isolation that night. People should be aware of the Jetboil and its virtues!

Friends and I were flying around Alaska on a business/pleasure trip in our airplanes when this storm put us on the ground on a little strip near Amakdedori Creek. 4 days and 3 nights with winds in excess of 70 mph, we huddled in our tent. Your Jetboil was a blessing. We cooked nearly all our meals with it. It is wind proof! The fuel efficiency surprised me. With our Mountain House dry foods from our survival kits, we enjoyed a diverse menu in comfort. Wild Cranberry tea, boiled coffee, jerky soup, were some of the tasks this all around survival stove provided us. This unit is a must have for all outdoor enthusiasts. Thank you and all the gang at Jetboil.

I have owned two Jetboil Personal Cooking Systems for sometime now but I used them for the fisrt time during the power outage caused by Hurricane Ike just lately. These things rock. I made coffee for ourselves and our friends and it was a nice treat when nothing else was working. Again thanks for a great product that exceeds my expectations.
